A Partnership between YAMSEN and ArtForms

The Gordon Parry Centre
is a partnership of staff and resources between YAMSEN:SpeciallyMusic
and artforms, the Leeds schools' music and arts service.  It is named after a suite of rooms in the West
Park Centre, Leeds, where we shared an office, a music therapy room and 'sound and light' room.

Our aim with the Gordon Parry Centre is to create unique and special musical opportunities that are accessible to everyone, including those:

  • who have learning and/or behavioural difficulties
  • who have sensory impairments
  • who are on the autistic spectrum
  • who have complex and multiple learning needs

We have a team of dedicated specialist music and arts staff who work in both the centre and in schools and offer training, support and advice.

We offer bespoke short- and long-term music projects and partnerships which we carry out in schools and other venues. Our projects explore instruments and themes, and can include other arts. Many projects start as curriculum enrichment activities. Current projects include:

  • Jamming Dodgers and Jammers Unplugged: Musical after-school and Saturday morning clubs for primary and secondary aged children with learning difficulties or ASD. Mix of singing, playing instruments, and other musical activities.  Interested parties are welcome to join.

  • ParaJam: After-school club with a technology emphasis, for pupils who use switches and accessible technology.  We use iPads, Apollo Ensemble and Soundbeam alongside accessible acoustic instruments.

  • Contact us for further information about these clubs--click here.

In addition, we run:

  • Music Therapy in Leeds schools
  • Tailored music, arts and multisensory workshop programmes for schools, organisations and groups whose clients have a range of special needs
